SCOPE
context.
RenoEra is a home interior supplier specializing in ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets. Unlike traditional retail e-commerce, the product catalog consists of modular components—base cabinets, wall cabinets, pantry units—requiring users to assemble a complete kitchen system rather than purchase individual items.
The existing website presented products visually but lacked structural clarity in navigation, configuration logic, and decision guidance. The goal was to transform the site into a structured commerce platform that supports high-consideration purchases while maintaining scalability for expanding product lines.

challenge.
The core challenge was designing for complexity without overwhelming users. Unlike fashion or FMCG e-commerce, cabinet systems require users to understand product hierarchy (category → type → size → configuration) before making decisions.
Users often browse by visual inspiration (color, style), but ultimately purchase by structural specifications. This created tension between inspiration-driven browsing and specification-driven purchasing.
From a technical standpoint, the platform needed to support variant-heavy SKUs, expandable configuration rules, and responsive behavior across desktop and mobile—while maintaining performance and clarity.

solution.
I introduced a dual-structure browsing model:
Inspiration-first navigation (Shop by Color / Style)
Specification-first navigation (Category → Cabinet Type → Dimensions)
This allowed users to enter from either emotional or structural entry points.
A modular grid system was designed to present technical cabinet drawings clearly without visual clutter. Product cards prioritized structural information (dimensions, type, configuration compatibility) over lifestyle imagery to match decision context.
On mobile, I restructured navigation into a progressive disclosure model, reducing cognitive load while preserving access to full product hierarchies.
A reusable component system was built to support SKU expansion, filtering logic, and future configuration tools.

reflection.
The redesigned experience transformed RenoEra’s website from a visual catalog into a structured purchasing system. Users could navigate modular products more intuitively, reducing friction in high-consideration decisions.
The system architecture supports long-term scalability as new cabinet lines, sizes, and configurations are introduced.
